Federal Tax Credit: The $2,000 builder tax credit
If you are attempting to qualify for the $2,000 builder tax credit here are some rules to consider:
     • You must use the services of a home energy rater.
     • It is critically important that the window to floor area stays less then 18%.
     • The walls generally have to have an R-value of 22 or more. Generally, fiberglass batt insulation does not provide an air tightness performance standard that qualifies for the tax credit.
     • The roof generally has to have an R-value=50
     • You will need to have some sort of controlled ventilation.
     • Boiler/Furnace should be at least 92% but preferred 94% efficient.

Your home energy rater will work with you on these and other decisions needed to qualify for this tax credit.
